October TBR – The TBR Raffle – Sister Edition

Hello, lovelies!

Welcome to the October TBR! I hope you are doing well, and are well into the autumn spirit! I am so looking forward to Halloween, even though I am not sure how I will be able to give out treats with Covid still going on. Maybe I’ll have to open up my garden and do a scavenger hunt or something similar. Any ideas?

September was a pretty good month in terms of my reading, even though life got a bit in the way. I still need to catch up on a few book reviews, but keeping a positive mindset, as always!

This month, I have something different planned for you. It wasn’t really planned, it happened naturally, but I think it turned up quite well in the end. My sister came to visit me one weekend, and she always loves my TBR Raffle videos on Instagram. This time, she asked me if she can choose the prompts. So I agreed. And not only did she end up choosing the prompts, but she ended up choosing the books as well. I had to add a few more titles in the end, which I am ue to review in October, but I am confident I can manage to read them all this month.

And with that. let the October TBR raffle commence.

The October TBR Raffle

I am filming my TBRs on my Instagram Stories. Make sure to follow me on Instagram, and check out the “Monthly TBR” highlight at the beginning of each month!

My TBR Raffle game is simple: I have a number of prompts that I put in small papers, into a jar. I draw a prompt, and I fit in a book that matches my prompt. Here is a list of the current prompts I have. Feel free to leave any prompt suggestions in the comments. Once the paper is drawn, I put it back into the jar, so it has an equal chance to get drawn again. I draw a total of 8 prompts, which result in 8 books for the month. If I fail to read a book, it automatically goes into the next month.

*This month, my sister chose my prompts and my books. I had a lot of fun doing this with her, and maybe I’ll let her do it again in the future! 🙂

My October TBR

✨ 1. New Author

My mum had an impact on this choice, as she was in our living room while we were having our fun. And she’s also been trying to get me to read this title for a very long time now. So she chose The Love Letter by Lucinda Riley.

When Sir James Harrison, one the greatest actors of his generation, passes away at the age of ninety-five he leaves behind not just a heartbroken family and a wealth of memorabilia from his long career but also a secret so shocking, so devastating that it could change everything…

Joanna Haslam is an ambitious young journalist, assigned to cover the legendary actor’s funeral. The great and the good of the celebrity world will be there. But Joanna stumbles on something dark beneath the glamour: the mention of a letter Harrison has left behind, the contents of which he was desperate to conceal. As she gets closer to tracking down the source, she realises that there are other very interested parties. And they’ll stop at nothing to reach the letter before she does.

✨ 2. Lowest Rated

The current lowest rated book on my October TBR is Devil’s Mist by Liam Moiser.  I think the reason for the low ratings has to do with low number of people that read it, so I am excited to dive into this one. It has camping and scary stories, and I think it has the perfect mood for Halloween.

A camping trip with a friend’s family, with a campfire to sit around and tell scary stories – except Rosie’s dad says this one is true. According to legend, the house across the lake hosts a strange curse, a missing daughter and a threat that anyone who ventures close will meet the same fate. Rosie and Jenny shrug the story off, but as events escalate, it becomes crystal clear that the curse is real and someone else is the next target.

Although they try to deny the truth, a note from an unlikely source confirms their deepest fears. Lies unravel, allies form and the truth about what happens back then threatens to come to light. But one answer remains shrouded, haunting all involved: Will they escape the mist before it comes for them or are they doomed to be lost forever?

✨ 3. Giveaway

A book that I have won as a Giveaway. My sister chose Beneath the World, a Sea by Chris Beckett. I won this book through ReadersFirst, and it seems like a truly enchanting read.

South America, 1990. Ben Ronson, a British police officer, arrives in a mysterious forest to investigate a spate of killings of a local species called the Duendes. They are silent, vaguely humanoid creatures – with long limbs and black button eyes – that have a strange psychic effect on people, exposing them to their suppressed thoughts and fears.

The crimes have taken place in a landscape known as the Delta and to reach it Ben has crossed the Zone, a territory which wipes the memories of all who pass through. He remembers nothing of the preceding days; what he did or felt or saw.

Ben is uneasy about what he may have done in the Zone and avoids opening the diaries he kept whilst there, busying himself with the investigation instead. He becomes fascinated by the Duendes, but the closer he gets, the more he begins to unravel. As the Delta starts to take hold of his mind, Ben becomes increasingly haunted by the unopened diaries and the terrible secrets they might hold…

✨ 4. Sister Pick

My Sister was so happy this also popped up. So she chose one of her favorite books, which I haven’t read yet. It’s After by Anna Todd. After is the first book in the After series.

Tessa is a good girl with a sweet, reliable boyfriend back home. She’s got direction, ambition, and a mother who’s intent on keeping her that way.

But she’s barely moved into her freshman dorm when she runs into Hardin. With his tousled brown hair, cocky British accent, tattoos, and lip ring, Hardin is cute and different from what she’s used to.

But he’s also rude—to the point of cruelty, even. For all his attitude, Tessa should hate Hardin. And she does—until she finds herself alone with him in his room. Something about his dark mood grabs her, and when they kiss it ignites within her a passion she’s never known before.

He’ll call her beautiful, then insist he isn’t the one for her and disappear again and again. Despite the reckless way he treats her, Tessa is compelled to dig deeper and find the real Hardin beneath all his lies. He pushes her away again and again, yet every time she pushes back, he only pulls her in deeper.

Tessa already has the perfect boyfriend. So why is she trying so hard to overcome her own hurt pride and Hardin’s prejudice about nice girls like her?

Unless…could this be love?

✨ 5. Classic

For my classic read, my sister chose Emma by Jane Austen. Emma has been on my TBR for a very long time, and I am really looking forward to finally reading it for the October TBR.

Emma Woodhouse is one of Austen’s most captivating and vivid characters. Beautiful, spoilt, vain and irrepressibly witty, Emma organizes the lives of the inhabitants of her sleepy little village and plays matchmaker with devastating effect.

✨ 6. Highest Rated

It’s amazing that we have both a Lowest Rated and a Highest Rated prompt in the same month for October TBR. I really love these. My current highest rated book is All About Amy by James J. Caterino. All About Amy has been on my TBR for a while now, and I remember winning it in a giveaway from Goodreads, a very long time ago.

Meet Troy Carter Brown, a man living a life of quiet desperation. One day, a mysterious woman from California shows up on his doorstep claiming to be a walk-in, the transmigrated soul of Amy Ellis, his long lost girlfriend who died in a tragic boating accident nearly twenty years ago. Is she merely playing him in some sort of an elaborate con game, or has the soul of Amy really returned to Troy in the form of this alluring stranger named Julie Saxton. Only in the end, as Troy and Julie end up on the run together fleeing for their lives from local gangsters, will the dramatic truth be revealed.

✨ 7. Standalone

My sister chose Uprooted by Naomi Novik for the standalone prompt for this October TBR, , because she knows I want to read this book so bad! Thanks sis!

Agnieszka loves her valley home, her quiet village, the forests and the bright shining river. But the corrupted wood stands on the border, full of malevolent power, and its shadow lies over her life.

Her people rely on the cold, ambitious wizard, known only as the Dragon, to keep the wood’s powers at bay. But he demands a terrible price for his help: one young woman must be handed over to serve him for ten years, a fate almost as terrible as being lost to the wood.

The next choosing is fast approaching, and Agnieszka is afraid. She knows – everyone knows – that the Dragon will take Kasia: beautiful, graceful, brave Kasia – all the things Agnieszka isn’t – and her dearest friend in the world. And there is no way to save her.

But no one can predict how or why the Dragon chooses a girl. And when he comes, it is not Kasia he will take with him.

✨ 8. Sent by Author

Hands Up by Stephen Clark is the book my sister chose. Probably because it is purple. 🙂

Officer Ryan Quinn, a rookie raised in a family of cops, is on the fast track to detective until he shoots an unarmed black male. Now, with his career, reputation and freedom on the line, he embarks on a quest for redemption that forces him to confront his fears and biases and choose between conscience or silence.

Jade Wakefield is an emotionally damaged college student living in one of Philadelphia’s worst neighborhoods. She knows the chances of getting an indictment against the cop who killed her brother are slim. When she learns there’s more to the story than the official police account, Jade is determined, even desperate, to find out what really happened. She plans to get revenge by any means necessary.

Kelly Randolph, who returns to Philadelphia broke and broken after abandoning his family ten years earlier, seeks forgiveness while mourning the death of his son. But after he’s thrust into the spotlight as the face of the protest movement, his disavowed criminal past resurfaces and threatens to derail the family’s pursuit of justice.

Ryan, Jade, and Kelly–three people from different worlds—are on a collision course after the shooting, as their lives interconnect and then spiral into chaos.

✨ 9. Extra

I am participating in a blog tour for Meet Me in London by Georgia Toffolo. My tour stop is on 5th October.

What do you do when your fake engagement starts to feel too real…

Aspiring clothes designer Victoria Scott spends her days working in a bar in Chelsea, and her evenings designing vintage clothes, dreaming of one day opening her own boutique. But these aspirations are under threat from the new department store opening at the end of her road. She needs a Christmas miracle, but one is not forthcoming.

Oliver Russell’s Christmas is not looking very festive right now. His family’s new London department store opening is behind schedule, and on top of that his interfering, if well meaning, mother is pressing him to introduce his girlfriend to her. A girlfriend who does not exist. He needs a diversion. Something to keep his mother from interfering while he focuses on the business.

When Oliver meets Victoria, he offers a proposition: pretend to be his girlfriend at the opening of his store and he will provide an opportunity for Victoria to showcase her designs. But what starts as a business arrangement soon becomes something more tempting, as the fake relationship starts to feel very real. But when secrets in Victoria’s past are exposed will Oliver walk away, or will they both follow their hearts and find what neither knew they were looking for…

July TBR – The TBR Raffle

JULY TBR 2020

Hello, book lovers!

I hope you are all staying well and being kind to yourself! The world that we live in today is so much different than we know it, and it is okay to take life at your own pace. Do what is best for you and take care of yourselves. Self-care and mental health are extremely important, now more than ever!

I read many books in June, but I am behind on writing the reviews. In May I had a reading slump, but June was amazing and I managed to read a lot of books. However, I was not so good with writing reviews, which is something I will be working on in the next week.

Let the July TBR raffle commence.

The TBR Raffle

My July TBR

July TBR Improvement Joan Silber By The Feet of Men Grant Price The Breaking K.S. Marsden Eleven Lines To Somewhere Alyson Rudd Not My Daughter Suzy K Quinn The Fault In Our Stars John Green The Avengers

There are two books that I haven’t read from last month, and they are being added to this month’s TBR again.

✨ 1. Added from last month’s TBR

A book I received through ReadersFirst, Improvement by Joan Silber. It has been on my shelf for a long time, and I feel like I am in the mood for it this month.

✨ 2. Added from last month’s TBR

I have chosen a book that I had on my shelf for the longest. By The Feet of Men by Grant Price is a post-apocalyptic novel and sounds very intriguing.

✨ 3. Series

I have chosen The Breaking (Northern Witch #3) by K.S. Marsden, because it is the latest installment of the series, and I am so curious to see how it will end.

✨ 4. Lowest Rated

The current lowest rated books on my TBR is Eleven Lines to Somewhere by Alyson Rudd. I think this is due to the fact that this is still an ARC and not many people have reviewed it yet. I will be also participating on a Blog Tour, so expect my review on the 26th July.

✨ 5. TBR Jar

I have a handmade TBR Jar and I pulled a random book title. See the video on my Instagram if you are interested. The title is Not My Daughter by Suzy K. Quinn and I couldn’t be happier, as I will be participating in the Blog Tour on 13th July.

✨ 6. Re-read

I chose The Fault in Our Stars by John Green, because it is one of my beloved titles since I was in high school, and I haven’t written a proper book review for it yet. I am wondering if I will still enjoy it the same.

✨ 7. Graphic Novel

When Graphic Novel came up, I realised I don’t own proper Graphic Novels anymore. The closest I have to it are a bundle of children’s books I bought on sale. Therefore, I am choosing The Avengers: Avengers Assemble! by Victoria Taylor.

✨ 8. Purchased

This is a book I have had for a long time, and I never actually read it. 100 Speeches That Roused The World by Colin Salter seems like an amazing introduction to many famous people and their speeches. I love how speeches have the power to change a person’s opinion on something and make people act in a way the speaker wants, and I cannot wait to read it.

June TBR – The TBR Raffle

June TBR The Bane Chronicles Into The Crooked Place Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire Nevermoor Dear JOhn The Princess PLan Improvement Julia London Nicholas Sparks J.K. Rowling Cassandra Clare

Hello, my lovelies!

I hope everyone is safe and gliding through the new era of Coronavirus. It is hard to believe that it is June already! I have to admit – I felt useless all month, but at least I got some reading done. Let’s see what My June TBR will bring.

I have read a lot of books in May and will hopefully do a May Wrap Up post as well soon. I have one book left to finish, which will be probably finished by the time I post this blog post, but I also read other reads as well. Let the June TBR raffle commence.

The TBR Raffle

I am filming my TBRs on my Instagram Stories. Make sure to follow me on Instagram, and check out the “Monthly TBR” highlight at the beginning of each month!

June TBR The Bane Chronicles Into The Crooked Place Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire Nevermoor Dear JOhn The Princess PLan Improvement Julia London Nicholas Sparks J.K. Rowling Cassandra Clare

✨ 1. Borrowed

When Borrowed came up, I chose two books and let my Instagram followers decide which one to pick. The majority chose The Bane Chronicles by Cassandra Clare, Sarah Rees Brennan, Maureen Johnson and Cassandra Jean. It is a collection of stories about Magnus Bane and I cannot wait to read it.

✨ 2. ReadersFirst

When this prompt comes up, I need to chose a book that was sent to me by the team at ReadersFirst. This is a website where you can read excepts of ARCs, leave a review and win books. For this prompt, I decided to choose I book I had on my shelf since last winter and I am excited about. Into the Crooked Place by Alexandra Christo has magic, betrayal and fantasy and I am looking forward to diving into it.

✨ 3. Fantasy

For this prompt, I decided to read Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by J.K. Rowling, the fourth book in the series. I think this is the book where things get darker and more dangerous, and I am extremely excited to get back to my comfort read with Harry, Hermione and Ron. On the subject of J.K. Rowling, I am also currently reading her newest children’s book – The Ickabog, as the chapters are being published.

✨ 4. My Pick

At first I thought I will choose a book during the month, as I feel like it, but then I decided to share it with you on Instagram, to choose for me. And the title was The Trials of Morrigan Crow (Nevermoor #1) by Jessica Townsend. I have wanted to read this book for a very long time and I cannot wait!

✨ 5. Re-Read

When re-read came up, I had a lot of difficulty choosing a book. I had to go for Dear John by Nicholas Sparks. I used to love romance and I haven’t been too keen to it lately, so I decided to pick up a book that made me love romance in the first place, and who else if not Nicholas Sparks.

✨ 6. Romance

For my romance prompt, I chose The Princess Plan (A Royal Wedding #1) by Julia London. It is a love story with a princess in it, and I am excited to read it. This book was sent to me by the team at Mills & Boon.

✨ 7. ReadersFirst

For the second prompt of a book I received through ReadersFirst, I chose Improvement by Joan Silber. It has been on my shelf for a long time, and I feel like I am in the mood for it this month.

✨ 8. Sent by Author

I was hoping to receive this prompt, and I am quite happy. I have chosen a book that I had on my shelf for the longest. By The Feet of Men by Grant Price is a post-apocalyptic novel and sounds very intriguing.

May TBR – The TBR Raffle

may tbr reading book books goodreads review blog blogging diary of difference diaryofdifference magic owls readathon magical book roast youtube

Hello, my lovelies!

I hope everyone is safe and gliding through the new era of Coronavirus. April was as unusual as March, but I have now started getting more and more used to my free time. Let’s see what My May TBR will bring.

I have read a lot of books in April, and I will soon do a complete April TBR Wrap up post. I am happy to say that I have read all the books I planned to read for the month, completed my OWLs and I also read some extra books as well.

The TBR Raffle

I am filming my TBRs on my Instagram Stories. Make sure to follow me on Instagram, and check out the “Monthly TBR” highlight at the beginning of each month!

My May TBR

BeFunky-collage (14).jpg

✨ 1. Giveaway

I have chosen A Throne of Swans by Katharine and Elizabeth Corr, because this was a book I received through Readers First. It is a story about a girl whose royal family transforms into swans, and when her father dies, she needs to lead. However, she hasn’t been able to become a swan since she saw her mother die, and danger is coming…

✨ 2. Boyfriend Pick

When this prompt comes up, my boyfriend needs to choose a book for me. This time, he chose The Shattering: Prelude to Cataclysm by Christie Golden. Chris & I have been playing World of Warcraft together for a while, and started again when the Vanilla version was launched. I have always been intrigued with the Lore, and he chose this book, because Cataclysm is his favorite expansion and he thinks it is a great beginning to dive into the Lore world. I am so excited to read it!

✨ 3. NetGalley

When this prompt comes up, I need to read a book I have requested through NetGalley. I have many titles that I need to catch up on, honestly, and this is a prompt that helps me stay on top of them. This time I chose Music From Another World by Robin Talley. A story about two girls that become penpals in the 1970s. Story about rebellion, music and finding their identities. I cannot wait to read this!

✨ 4. Sent By Author

I have chosen Ethereal Custody: Anthologies by Byron Allanvre, because this is the book that was sent to me by an author that has been on my shelf the longest. I am not too familiar with the synopsis, but I know it is a sci-fi book about a parallel universe, and our protagonist is trying to escape.

✨ 5. Lowest Rated

When the Lowest Rated prompt comes up, I have a look at my Goodreads TBR pile, and choose the book that has the lowest average rating. I tend to avoid books that have less than 10 reviews. French Kissing by Catherine Sanderson was the book that popped up on my list, and I can’t wait to read. I love the synopsis and I have been wanting to read this book for a long time, so I am a bit surprised as to why it has a low rating.

✨ 6. One Word Title

For this occasion, I chose a book that was sent to me by an author. The book I will read is Cryptofauna by Patrick Canning. It is a story of a janitor that works in an asylum. He is about to commit a suicide, but is stopped by one of the residents and is then recruited to play a game called Cryptofauna. I am quite excited to read what this game is all about!

✨ 7. Purchased

A book I recently purchased is The Last Wish by Andrzej Sapkowski. This is the prequel to the Witcher series. I love Witcher – the game and I also loved The Witcher – the TV Show. I love Geralt of Rivia with all my heart, and this is the perfect time to dive into the book series.

✨ 8. Giveaway

We start and we end with a Giveaway. And this time, I have chosen Thorn by Intisar Khanani. This is a book about Alyrra, who is a princess and is about to get married to a price from another kingdom. But all she wants to do is be an ordinary person. When a sorceress robs her of her identity, Alyrra’s adventures begin. Thorn gives me Aladdin vibes, and I cannot wait to read it!

April TBR – O.W.L.s Magical Readathon 2020

april tbr reading book books goodreads review blog blogging diary of difference diaryofdifference magic owls readathon magical book roast youtube

Hello, my lovelies!

I hope you are all well and safe, and are staying at home! March has been a very unusual and awkward month with the whole Corona virus all over the world.

Even though I stayed at home all the time, I realised I am reading way less than usual and my TBR is not getting any smaller. I needed some time to adapt to this new situation and now I am slowly starting to actually enjoy my time away from the world and get back to reading.

And having said that, I decided to participate in the O.W.L.s Magical Readathon for the very first time. I am a huge fan of Harry Potter and have always wanted to do this, so here we are:

About the O.W.L.s Magical Readathon

The O.W.L.s Magical Readathon is month-long readathon that starts on 1st April and ends on 31st April. It is hosted by the lovely G over at Book Roast. Click here for her YouTube Announcement Video and Click here for your Hogwarts Induction on the exams.

In summary, you choose your career from the many amazing careers available, and based on your career, you need to pass your subjects. Each subject has a unique book prompt and you pass your exam by reading books that match your subject prompts.

My April TBR

As you might already know, I have my own way of choosing my TBR books, and this includes spinning my TBR Wheel for prompts.

Also, if I don’t manage to finish a book in the previous month, I add it to my next month, having a total of 8 books for the month. For my April TBR, I will be adding the books I haven’t read last month, but knowing I will fail to read all the books I list below I will NOT have a punishment for next month. If I don’t manage to read a book, it will go in the TBR pile again, waiting to be picked up.

This time around, to fit my O.W.L.s, I needed to do something very different: find books that fit my 3 books from last month, fit my 5 spins and also fit my career subject prompts. I first got my 5 spins, and then tried to fit them all to my subjects below:

Career chosen: AUROR

Mandatory Subjects:
